BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana University recently unveiled a statue honoring local music legend John Mellencamp. Crafted by artist Michael McAuley, the statue stands in the IU Auditorium’s North Garden, capturing Mellencamp with his guitar in tribute to his impact on music and culture.
Following the statue reveal, Mellencamp performed live, delighting fans with hits "Small Town" “Rain On The Scarecrow”, and "Jack & Diane."
Although not an IU alum, Mellencamp has strong ties to Bloomington and holds an honorary doctorate from the university. His influence on Indiana is further celebrated through an art exhibit at the university's Eskenazi Museum, and he plans to donate his archives, ensuring his legacy endures on campus.
